Rosario Fined, Suspension for Distaff Ride on Clairiere

Kentucky managers ordered jockey Joel Rosario to be suspended for one day and fined him $900 for assault. Claire seven times, just over the crop’s six-hit limit, when riding her to third in the Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Keeneland November 5th.

4 years old Curlin filly, owned by Stonestreet Stables and coached by Hall of Famer Steve Asmussen, was hit one or two times by the head Malathaat and runner-up Blue Stripe in a tight finish.

Rosario’s fine and suspension follows Equestrian Integrity and Safety Authority rules, introduced in July.

The ruling against Rosario is the only one related to the Breeders’ Cup World Championship that was noted in a November 10 report distributed by HISA to the media.

According to HISA rules, a Level 3 violation with one to three over-the-limit strikes will result in a fine of $250 or 10% of the rider’s money, whichever is greater, and suspended for at least one day. Players accumulate extra points for infractions that may result in additional penalties.

Distaff’s race video appears to confirm that Rosario violated Level 3.

When crops used four or more times exceed the limit, jockeys face higher fines and longer suspensions, and horse owners forfeit their hard-earned money.

The ruling announced that Rosario would serve a one-day suspension on November 16.
