Via Sam Volz: Rolando ‘Rolly’ Romero has ruled out him going up to Frank Martin, saying he has nothing to offer despite him being a must-competitor for ‘regular’ WBA lightweight champion Gervonta’ Tank ‘ Davis.
It’s a fight that could reopen the door for Rolly to make big money against Tank Davis and Devin Haney.
Of course, it’s questionable whether 28-year-old Rolly can still make 135 at this point because he looks like an official 147-pound athlete, and it’s debatable whether he can. Can she lose weight again to compete in that division for longer? .
Rolly (14-1, 12 KOs) was on the verge of a disappointing sixth-round knockout loss to Tank Davis last May and made a lot of money in that bout.
Instead of going back, Rolly wanted another hit against Tank, given to him voluntarily. If it weren’t for him, Rolly would like to challenge IBF, WBA & WBC welterweight champion Errol Spence Jr.
“Do I like Frank Martin? Yes, I like him as a person. He doesn’t really get in conversation with anyone. He’s just there,” says Rolly Romero on social media when asked about his views on WBA’s mandatory lightweight opponent Frank Martin.
“I don’t have a problem with Frank Martin, but will I fight him? I have no interest in fighting him because, honestly, he wouldn’t do anything for me. I would rather fight Errol Spence Jr. So do I want to fight him or him? I’d rather fight Spence.
“That’s a stupid question. Get some damn influence and come talk to me,‘ Rolly Romero said in a message to Frank Martin. “Get something worthwhile.”
Rolly sounds like he doesn’t care about having to win any of the big fights out there and just wants to try talking to them, like he did with his undeserved title win over Tank. Davis.
Unfortunately, it’s unlikely that Mayweather Promotions would have been able to set up Rolly for a big money fight, be it at 135, 140 or 147, without him moving into his place by beat. some of the top competitors in one of those weight classes.
It seems likely that Rolly will compete in the 140th place, in which case he should face the likes of Arnold Barboza Jr, Jose Zepeda, Jose Ramirez and Subriel Matias.
