Rolls-Royce Spirit of Ecstasy mascot redesigned aerodynamics

Rolls royce car tweaked the design of the company’s iconic Spirit of Ecstasy bonnet mascot to match its upcoming line of electric vehicles. The updated statue will make its first appearance on a vehicle next year, sitting on the bonnet of a pure electric vehicle. The spectre.

Rolls-Royce says this modification brings the design of the mascot on its bonnet closer to the idea that sculptor Charles Sykes dreamed of. He is best known for designing the original Spirit of Ecstasy character, first trademarked in February 1911.

The modified Spirit of Ecstasy mascot is slightly shorter than the old mascot, 82.73mm tall, instead of 100.1mm. The previous version also had a more upright stance, but this new shape leans forward in the direction of the wind, which Rolls-Royce says is better for aerodynamics.

The brand has used state-of-the-art computer modeling to optimize the airflow through the statue, but the methods Rolls-Royce will use to produce the mascots will remain the same as they were 111 years ago. Each figure will be waxed and finer details and polishing will be done by hand, which means each figure will be slightly different.

Not only The spectre As Rolls-Royce’s first electric vehicle, it will also be the most aerodynamically efficient. The company says the coupe will have a drag coefficient of 0.26Cd, which is on par with Audi e-tron Sportback – so it’s important that traditional traits like the Spirit of Ecstasy mascot don’t negatively affect the vehicle’s range.

Rolls royce carDesign director Anders Warming said: “Today 111 years ago, the Spirit of Ecstasy became an official part of Rolls-Royce. However, she has come to represent a spiritual direction for our brand.

“Her form perfectly appeals to the fashionistas – she leans forward, embodying our relentless pursuit of progress, and her dress gracefully flutters in the wind, expressing our the elegance of our products in motion. As for Specter and beyond, she becomes shorter and more focused; Prepare for the unprecedented speed and exciting future her presence will define. “

The current Spirit of Ecstasy mascot will continue to be used on Phantom, Ghost, Wraith, Dawn, and Cullinan. For now, the new figure will be dedicated to Specter.
