Rohit Sharma a bit laid-back captain, says Sourav Ganguly | Cricket News

KOLKATA: BCCI chairperson Sourav Ganguly on wednesday ended Rohit Sharma a “comfort captain” and said that Mumbaikar should be given some time to produce results.
Against the backdrop of workload management, COVID and injury concerns, India has seen seven captains lead the team at different stages since 35-year-old Rohit took over. Virat kohli as a full-time skipper on formats.

Ganguly has been impressed by Rohit, who has won a record five Indian Premier Leagues (IPL) title for the Mumbai Indian, and said that he should be given a longer rope before being compared with the likes MS Dhoni and Kohli.
“Rohit Sharma is obviously someone who is a bit comfortable taking things in a very calm and cautious manner rather than someone who always looks you in the face,” Ganguly said during the Bengal Peerless event on ‘Leadership in India’ modern’.
The former captain is answering questions about the crop of Indian leaders since he called it a layoff.

“India has produced some great captains over the years. MS Dhoni who has handled the transition wonderfully and continues to bring praise not only for India but also for his franchise (Chennai Super Kings).
“Then there’s Virat Kohli, who also has an incredible track record. He’s a different captain, he’s done things differently.
“Every individual is different but what matters is the result and how much you win or lose. I don’t compare captains, everyone has their own way of leading.
“We give someone the responsibility, then we want him to do things the way we want, and I think that’s not right. When you back someone to make him captain, give him a shot. a little bit of time to come up with the results, then see what happens.”
Back to 2003 World Cup In the final against Australia, Ganguly’s poor decision could be met with a bit of criticism as the team led by Ricky Ponting toyed with India’s attack to post a massive 359/2.
Australia won with 125 major runs en route to their second straight win.
No regrets about the decision, Ganguly said.
“I don’t think back. I’m disappointed that I lost the final but I don’t think the goal was to lose the final. We didn’t play well,” he said.
Requested for comment on FIFAHe said: “I’m not involved with football so I can’t answer that question. But I think every sports body has a system, every sports body has our rules and regulations. . at BCCI also have rules and protocols.”
