Roborock’s new S8 Pro Ultra vacuum cleaner better cleans the place and itself
Roborock will be released at CES 2023 in Las Vegas, its new flagship S8 series includes three best robot vacuum cleaner not yet: base S8, S8 Plus and S8 Pro Ultra.
The models are mostly the same with a few unique features that distinguish them. Each S8 vacuum cleaner comes with a “newly designed double roller brush system,” which the company claims allows for a deeper cleaning. Roborock also boasts a 6,000Pa suction line (Pascal Pressure Unit); which the company claims is the highest of all their current robot vacuums.
Some of Roborock’s proprietary technology is carrying over from other models. First, you have the pretty fancy “VibraRise Smart Mopping System”. According to the product page of vacuum S7 (opens in a new tab), VibraRise uses “sonic vibration technology” that allows these tiny robots to scrub up to “3,000 items per minute” for a thorough clean. Another notable feature is the Reactive 3D Obstacle Avoidance System which gives the S8 series models the ability to detect and avoid obstacles. The AI on other models, like the S7, is equipped with a machine learning algorithm so it can “remember” the location of obstacles. We’ve asked the company representative if Reactive 3D has this capability, but we’ve yet to receive a response.
little difference
The few differences that exist between the S8 vacuums are mainly due to the docking station. Each person charges their respective model, but according to company representatives, the S8 Plus’ station has an auto-dusting dock that will automatically empty the trash can.
The docking station of the S8 Pro Ultra is a bit different. It’s called RockDock Ultra, and it not only empties the trash can, but can also wash the S8 Pro’s internal mop as well as refill the water tank. In addition, it has a warm air dryer to prevent mold growth on both the mop and the docking station itself.
The other notable difference is that the VibraRise Mopping System on the S8 Pro has been upgraded to 2.0. Firstly, this new version comes with “two vibration modules” for better cleaning effect. And the model automatically raises its internal mop by 6mm whenever it detects carpeted floors to avoid cross-contamination.
The S8 series is currently available for purchase via Amazon or Roborock’s own store, but only in the US. Prices start at $749.99. It is unknown if there are plans for a global launch at this point.
Another choice
If you want a vacuum with more power behind, Roborock is also launching the wireless Dyad Pro alongside the S8 series for $449.99. The company says the new model is capable of “auto-tuning.” [its] cleaning power… [accordingly] with different floor scenarios” similar to how the S8 Pro can pull out the mop when it detects carpet. And it has almost three times as much suction at 17,000Pa.
