Robert Snodgrass: Motherwell offers midfield contract after signing negotiations | Football news
Motherwell manager Steven Hammell is awaiting an answer from former Scotland midfielder Robert Snodgrass following signing negotiations.
But the new boss of Fir Park insists that some of the players he inherited quickly changed his mind about them after responding very well to his ideas.
Snodgrass played 18 times for Sky Bet Championship clubs West Brom and Luton last season and the 34-year-old is a free agent.
Hammell said: “I talked to Robert. Like we said from day one, we just bring people in here to enhance what we’re doing and he’s someone we feel like. consistent with that.
“He still has a lot to offer on the pitch and we believe he will also be an important addition off the pitch.
“I personally know him, I think he’s going to enjoy his football here, the way we want to do it and the environment we’re creating and the culture, he’ll fit in with what we want. i am trying to achieve.
“We’ve said it a few times and we’ll see how it goes.”
Hammell this week re-signed former Motherwell youth academy player Stuart McKinstry on long-term loan from Leeds and is eyeing a left-back with long-term absentees Jake Carroll and Nathan McGinley.
But he became a player after his fixed date last week when Motherwell won Aberdeen 3-2.
Hammell said: “We’re always looking for players. What I want to say is that the response we’ve had from the team here has been outstanding. It’s been fantastic.
“From day one we said we needed to see improvement from the boys we got here and they could have seen me say we needed players.
“But the guys here gave us everything and even a thing or two that we thought we wouldn’t get into much of has really impressed and really moved on.
“Are we still going to try to get the players in? Yes, but they need to be ready, they need to make us better and they need to want to come here.
“If they don’t want to come here or we don’t feel like they’re going to improve what we have, or it’s going to be a problem, that’s okay.
“There’s a bit of a lack of confidence at the club and in the squad that we feel and we feel like we’re slowly improving on that.
“We’re close to where we want to be. But I feel like the players are responding to what we’re doing, they’re gaining confidence, that makes for results.
“If we can keep that momentum then hopefully we’ll see the players we already have on the team build on their confidence and improve, and we’ve seen that with a few people in the team. their number.”
Motherwell is now headed for her first win of the season at home against Livingston on Saturday following defeats to Sligo Rovers and St Johnstone at Fir Park.
“This Saturday’s game is a very, very difficult one,” Hammell said. “We’ve prepared as best we can and we need to be in top shape to achieve anything.
“We need to build on what we’ve done and we need to put in another positive performance.”
