LAS VEGAS – Robbie Knievel, an American stuntman who set a record with his daring motorcycle jumps in the tracks of his tires. his thrill-seeking father — including at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas in 1989 and the Grand Canyon a decade later — passed away in Nevada, his brother said. He was 60.
Robbie Knievel died early Friday at a hospice in Reno after battling pancreatic cancer, Kelly Knievel said.
Kelly Knievel told The Associated Press: “Dredoms don’t live an easy life. “He’s a daredevil. People don’t really understand how scary what my brother did.”
As a young boy, Robbie Knievel started cycling to imitate his famous father, Evel Knievel, who passed away in 2007 in Clearwater, Florida.
But where Evel Knievel famously nearly died from an injury when he crashed into his Harley-Davidson while jumping over the Caesars Palace fountain in Las Vegas in 1967, Robbie completed the jump in 1989 with one. Honda is specially designed.
Robbie Knievel also made the remarkable Las Vegas Strip jump in a row of limousines in 1998 at the Tropicana Hotel; between two buildings at the Jockey Club in 1999; and a New Year’s Eve jump amid fireworks in front of a volcanic attraction at The Mirage on December 31, 2008.
After crashing while landing to complete a 220-foot (61-meter) motorcycle jump at an Indian reserve outside Grand Canyon National Park in 1999, Robbie Knievel noted that father he always wanted to jump over the spectacular natural landmark in Arizona. but never do. Robbie Knievel broke his leg in the collision.
Instead, Evel Knievel attempted to soar over the mile-wide Snake River Canyon in Idaho in September 1974. His rocket-powered bike plunged into the canyon while his parachute escaped. he was released.
Robbie Knievel’s brother recalls other stunts including a 2004 jump over a row of military planes on the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Intrepid, a museum in New York.
Robbie Knievel, who calls himself “Captain Robbie Knievel”, has set many stunt records, but has also failed on many attempts. In 1992, at the age of 29, he was injured when he crashed into the 22nd of 25 pickup trucks lined up 55 meters long in Cerritos, California.
Kelly Knievel said: “The injury has affected him quite a lot.
Kelly Knievel lives in Las Vegas. He said his brother died with his three daughters by his side: Krysten Knievel Hansson of Chicago, Karmen Knievel of Missoula, Montana, and Maria Collins of Waldport, Oregon.
Services are not scheduled immediately, but Kelly Knievel said his brother will be buried with other family members in Butte, Montana.
