Robbie Coltrane: Harry Potter’s Hagrid and Cracker actor has died aged 72 | Ents & Arts News


Harry Potter and Cracker actor Robbie Coltrane has died aged 72, his agent said.

The Scottish-born actor who was best known for playing Hagrid in the Harry Potter films passed away on Friday.

In a statement, his agent, Belinda Wright, said: “He will likely be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films, a role that brought joy to the world. children as well as adults around the world, driving a weekly stream of fan letters for over 20 years.”

She described him as a “wonderful actor” and “wonderfully intelligent” and said he was survived by his sister Annie Rae, his children Spencer and Alice and their mother Rhona Gemmell .

Coltrane has starred in dozens of movies and TV shows – including in the Cracker television series and in two James Bond films.

His agent did not give details of his death – but said Coltrane’s family thanked the team at Royal Forth Valley Hospital in Larbert for their care.
