Rivian delays delivery of R1T trucks 400 miles to 2023


Electric transportation startup Rivian is delaying deliveries of its 400-mile R1T pickup truck to 2023. In an email to customers due to RJ Scaringe CEO said the company is prioritizing production of R1T cars equipped with Batteries “big pack”. Once those orders are completed, the firm will turn its attention to more affordable “Discover Pack” trim and “Max Pack” batteries.

“In setting delivery times, we have optimized our build sequence around a build combination that will help us grow as quickly as possible and thus have a positive climate impact. as big as possible,” RJ Scaringe wrote in an email. We have reached out to Rivian for more information.

In the same announcement, Scaringe noted that the maximum battery variants account for about 20% of the 71,000 pre-ordered R1T and R1S units the automaker has secured as of December 15 of this year. That suggests a delay involving about 14,200 vehicles. Rivian allows people to change their order if they want to get their R1T sooner. It also promises to share more information on delivery times in early 2022.

Rivian has delayed R1T deliveries several times over the past few years. The truck was originally slated to launch in 2020, but the company eventually pushed that date back . Pandemic and played a role in it, but Rivian also doesn’t have much production capacity at the moment. It plans to break ground on a new factory in . However, that won’t be complete until sometime in 2024. Meanwhile, the company also has the order it needs to respond to Amazon minority owner.
