Auto insurance rates are up 12% in 2021 and are expected to rise another 5% in 2022, and risky driving behaviors are one of the reasons why, according to a new report from Insurify. .

The report sets the stage by exploring recent trends in accidental deaths. Although the mortality rate fell by 3% between spring 2020 and 2021, it is still 26% higher in 2021 than in the same period in 2019.

This suggests that the reckless driving habits adopted during the initial pandemic shelter-in-place orders were more resilient than they were during the outbreak.

For example, about 44% of motorists said they have seen more aggressive driving on the road in 2021 than they did before the pandemic.

Furthermore, coverage rates have increased in 2021, not only for motorists who have received at least one commuting fine, but also across the board. In fact, many of the drivers who received a fare increase in 2021 did not have any violations on record, the report noted.

While many different factors help determine auto insurance rates, driving violations significantly increase the cost of car insurance.

Risky behaviors such as speeding, failing to signal before changing lanes, and swerving are serious offences.

While team drivers constantly need to be reminded to avoid risky driving for their own safety and the safety of all road users, rising insurance rates are one reason. other to maintain appropriate driving methods.

For example, even a previous traffic violation can cause a motorist’s premium price to increase by an average of 35%, the report notes.

Fleet operators should remind their teams that aggressive drivers not only violate their organization’s safety policy, but have a negative impact on the bottom line of the business.

Insurify’s data team has classified aggressive drivers as those who have been previously accused of showing serious disregard for others on the road. Such violations include failure to yield or stop, following the road, racing on the street, reckless driving, negligent driving and reckless driving.

Typically, aggressive drivers pay 25% more car insurance premiums than drivers with a clean record. That’s because insurance companies consider aggressive drivers more likely to re-offend and riskier to insure.
