Rishi Sunak Shuts Down Pak-Origin MP Who Raised PM Modi, 2002 Riots

Defending Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the British Parliament, British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak steered clear of the BBC documentary series, saying he “disagrees with the characterization” of his Indian counterpart.

Mr. Sunak made these remarks about the controversial documentary that was presented in the UK Parliament by Pakistani-born MP Imran Hussain.

“The UK government’s position on this has been clear and long and has not changed, of course we do not tolerate mistreatment anywhere but I’m not sure I agree at all. characteristics that respectable gentlemen have,” he said in response to Hussain’s question about the BBC report.

The UK’s national broadcaster BBC aired a two-part series attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s tenure as the Chief Minister of Gujarat during the 2002 Gujarat riots. The documentary caused a stir. outrage and has been removed from certain platforms.

Famous Indian-born UK citizens condemned the series. Prominent UK citizen Lord Rami Ranger said “The BBC has caused a lot of pain to over a billion Indians.”

Condemning the BBC’s biased reporting, Rami tweeted, “@BBCNews You have caused a lot of hurt to over a billion Indians. It insults a democratically elected @PMOIndia Indian police and privacy. We condemn the riots and loss of life and also condemn your biased reporting.”

The Foreign Office also responded to the BBC’s report, calling it a completely biased copy.

While speaking at the weekly briefing in New Delhi, MEA Spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said: “We think this is a piece of propaganda. This has no objectivity. This is biased. Please note that this has not been shown in India. We don’t want to reply more on this so this doesn’t get much dignity.”

He even questioned the “purpose of the exercise and the agenda behind it.”

“The documentary is a reflection of the agency and individuals who are reselling this story. It made us wonder about the purpose of the exercise and the agenda behind it; to be honest, we were. would like to appreciate these efforts,” he added.

Referring to former UK Secretary of State Jack Straw’s explicit remarks in the documentary series, Bagchi said “He (Jack Straw) seems to be referring to some internal UK reporting. How do I get access to it? It’s a 20 year old report. Why are we jumping into it now? Just because Jack said it, how do they make it legit.”
