‘Risen’, ‘The Excavation of Hob’s Barrow’, Plus Today’s Other Releases and Sales – TouchArcade

Hello gentle readers and welcome to the SwitchArcade Recap on January 25, 2023. In today’s post we have some new releases to check out. That’s pretty rare for a Wednesday, so enjoy it. Let’s mustard it, while we’re at it. We’ve got a rundown of each of those new games, along with the usual list of new sales and discounts that are about to expire. Let’s go there!

New release

Hob’s Barrow Excavation ($14.99)

Oh hey, a new Wadjet Eye adventure game just released. You know what that means, adventure game fans. That’s right, it’s time to buy a new game. Wadjet Eye practically never misses, and this game lives up to its stellar reputation. It is steeped in English folklore, telling the story of an antiques collector named Thomasina who was summoned to a small village in the English countryside to take part in an excavation. Almost everything went bad almost immediately, and Thomasina started having strange dreams. The art style here is particularly different and really helps to sell the horror feel.

Easter ($29.99)

Well, that’s not what I expected. I must have missed the notification or forgot it or something. Either way, here’s the 2009 Piranha Bytes action RPG that continues the developer’s most beloved game. Gothic series. Easter ended up making a bunch of minigames on its own, and we’ll probably see more of those at some point. Either way, it’s a surprisingly fun if slightly fun game, and as long as this Switch port is handled well, I think it will find a happy and willing audience on the platform. .

Grammar Company Limited ($9.99)

In the distant future, grammar has become very important. Indeed, using the wrong grammar is the basis for losing a job or even going to jail! You play as a recent graduate who has joined the world’s largest grammar validation agency. Your job is to correct grammar mistakes, a job where you will sometimes have to compete with your colleagues. Learn grammar rules, correct mistakes, and rank up. With a nicer title that will pay more, you can use this money to upgrade your apartment and buy luxury things. Sure, it’s educational entertainment, but if the internet has taught me anything it’s that people love to correct other people’s mistakes.

Clunky Hero ($14.99)

Another good but unremarkable Metroidvania style game for the Switch. There are certainly quite a few of these now. This seems to rely on its humor to help it stand out from the crowd, which is always a risky game. It’s received pretty positive reviews on Steam, so that’s something to go by. If you crave some Metroidvania action and don’t mind one that doesn’t really try to shake the groundwork of the genre then this might suit your needs.

Velone ($14.99)

You know what a pretty good game is? Opus Magnum by Zachtronics. We don’t have that game on the Switch, but you might have a computer that can play it. You should. velvet is the McDonalds we have at home Opus Magnum. It is clearly inspired by it and has some similarities, but it is not quite the same. You get forty levels of programming puzzles that will require some top logical thinking to solve. It’s not bad, but it mostly makes me want to play Opus Magnum.

Sissa’s Way ($4.99)

This is essentially Sokoban, except the crates are balls of yarn and the warehouse worker is a kitten. Move the field balls to the white pedestals on each level to clear it, but be careful as you can only push them, not pull them.

The sale

(North American eShop, US price)

Another rather lame sales day, friends. This makes me extremely worried about the size of the wave that will come over the weekend. For today, all that’s really remarkable is UNO, sold as part of the Nintendo Switch Online Free Game Trial program. Go ahead and download to get some Platinum Points that you can spend on avatar gubbins. Whereas in the outbox, almost nothing! Take a second or two and check both lists, as a favor to me.

That’s all for today, friends. We’ll be back tomorrow with about 20 new releases, though a staggering number of them are a bit dubious or worse. Of course, we’ll also have any discounts and major news items. Looks like I got lucky with this shot, as my side effects were almost zero. I hope you all have a great Wednesday, and as always, thanks for reading!
