Ricky Pearsall: San Francisco 49ers player shot during robbery
NFL player Ricky Pearsall was shot in the chest during a botched robbery in San Francisco.
Pearsall, 23, “suffered a gunshot wound to the chest” and is in “serious but stable condition” according to his San Francisco 49ers team, following the incident in the city’s Union Square on Saturday afternoon.
Police said the 17-year-old suspect is currently in custody and “pending prosecution”.
Footage shared on social media shows a shirtless Pearsall being carried to an ambulance by paramedics and sitting on a stretcher while holding the shirt to his chest.
Police said when they arrived at the scene of the incident, they found two men injured and both were taken to hospital.
“During the preliminary investigation, police discovered that one of the subjects attempted to rob the victim, San Francisco 49ers player Ricky Pearsall,” they said in a statement.
“During the attempted robbery, a scuffle broke out and both the suspect and the victim were injured.”
Pearsall was a first-round pick by the 49ers in April, when the best college players are drafted into the NFL.
He had just returned to practice from a shoulder injury before the 49ers played their first game of the new season on September 10.
