MANILA, Philippines—Rhenz Abando remains the Korean Basketball League champion.
Anyang KGC needed five more minutes to claim the KBL championship after beating Seoul SK Knights 100-97 in extra time of Game 7 of the final at Anyang Gymnasium on Sunday.
Abando started for KGC and played for almost 28 minutes but was empty in the scoring post, missing all seven of his shots from the field.
However, the Philippine imports have been active across the divisions with three rebounds, two saves, one steal and one assist to help Anyang win the KBL 2023 title right away. on his home turf.
However, it was Omari Spellman who made a big contribution to KGC, whose team also won the regular-season championship, with a monster double of 34 points and 14 rebounds.
In a wasted effort, Seoul’s Kim Sun-Hyung finished with 37 points built on five trios while Jameel Warney also had 20 points and 13 goals in a loss to SK Knights.
It was a championship match from behind for Anyang, who lost the opener and were forced to play Game 7.
The championship is Anyang’s fourth championship since being included in the tournament in 1997.
