Dragon’s House begins when the Targaryens are at the height of their power. Viserys I Targaryen is now King of the Seven Kingdoms after being named the successor to King Jaeherys I. Viserys came before the Great Council with Princess Rhaenys, Jaeherys’ eldest descendant and the only possible candidate to become King. become his successor. Jaeherys must appoint a successor to prevent a war because he knows that “the only thing that can destroy the house of dragons is itself.”

Nine years after the reign of King Viserys I, 172 years before King Aerys’ death and the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, Viserys had a daughter named Rhaenyra, a confident princess and dragon rider. Rhaenyra’s mother, Queen Aemma, is expecting another child.

Rhaenyra was a dependable young princess and was present at her father’s small council meetings. She hears about everything that’s going on in Realm. Viserys raised Aemma and spoke highly of his future heir. Although Rhaenyra was his first child, she would be completely overtaken if Aemma gave birth to a son.

After the meeting, Rhaenyra went to the Great Hall and found her uncle Daemon – who had been significantly absent from the small council meeting – sitting on the Iron Throne. They are close and speak Valyrian together. He brought her a necklace made of Valyrian steel and wore it around her neck. Later, Rhaenyra’s best friend, Alicent, learns that Rhaenyra is upset because her father is talking about having a son.

Rhaenrya waited with Alicent, daughter of Otto Hightower. Alicent knew that Rhaenyra was upset that he was about to overshadow her with a son. Rhaenyra tells Alicent that she would love to fly with her on dragons and travel the world.

Daemon’s chaos causes problems for the king

Meanwhile, Viserys has an infection in his back. Otto Hightower, his Hand, tells the Grand Maester that the disease needs to be kept quiet. Viserys goes in search of his beloved wife. He believes more than anything else that the child she is having is a boy. Aemma confesses that this will be her last pregnancy. She mourns all the dead children she can.

Daemon, the king’s commander of the City Watch, orders his soldiers to enact law and order in the most extreme ways. There was beating, mutilation, amputation and beheading under his supervision. The small council immediately heard about this. Otto emphasized to Viserys that Daemon could not be allowed to act with this “unbridled punishment”.

Daemon defends himself and claims that he is serving his brother by catching all the criminals in King’s Landing. Daemon said: “Our city must be safe for all its citizens. Viserys tells Daemon that he hopes he doesn’t need to trick people into doing it. “Time will tell,” Daemon said somewhat confidently.

Lord Corlys Velaryon defended Daemon’s decision. Otto decided to try another tactic to break Daemon: by raising his wife, who is currently alone in the Vale. Daemon calls his wife “bronze”. This is clearly a marriage of obligation. He doesn’t care about the vows he makes. Daemon and Otto certainly don’t face each other about anything, but Viserys’s gentle support for his brother always gives Daemon a “get out of prison for free” card.

While Daemon has a wife, he gets to have his fun with Mysaria (at least most of the time). After his tense little board meeting, he couldn’t finish. Mysaria is his soul mate and she comforts him about his frustrations.

Viserys makes a devastating choice

Viserys’ tournament for Daemon was conducted when Queen Aemma gave birth. There’s a lot of immediate drama. A knight called Rhaenys the “Queen who was never present” in front of Viserys. Rhaenyra and Alicent exchanged small talk, and Rhaenyra received inside information about the handsome Ser Criston Cole from Harrold Westerling, Lord Commander.

In an attempt to get back at Otto for trying to weaken him, Daemon chose Ser Gawain Hightower, Otto’s son, to battle first. Daemon looked straight at Otto before the clash began. While Gawain took the first blow, Daemon succeeded on the second turn. He then twisted the knife deeper by asking for Alicent’s favor. Her father looked at her, but she did anyway.

Viserys ran to Aemma after learning of complications in labor. The baby is the butt. Aemma’s condition worsened, and the Grand Maester warned Viserys that he might have to make a heartbreaking decision or risk losing his wife and children.

Viserys chose an heir in place of his wife. “I love you,” he told Aemma before Grand Maester began to speak to her. She begs Viserys not to do this, but he doesn’t listen to her pleas. He has enough bile to hold her hand as she cries and blood gushes out from the womb.

Meanwhile, Ser Criston confronts Daemon. Daemon fell off his horse in the melee, and everything turned into a arms fight. While it looked like Daemon would prevail, Criston struck back at the last moment. Criston ended up winning this round, and Daemon wasn’t happy about it. Criston arrives to plead for Rhaenyra’s favor after his victory. “Good luck, Ser Criston,” she replied flirtatiously.

Viserys’ decision ended in a double tragedy

Viserys got his son but only for a moment. His son, his heir, soon died. In the end, he lost both. At the funeral, Daemon had to say to Rhaenyra in Valyrian, “They’re waiting for you.” Rhaenyra was clearly angry with her father. “I wonder if in the few hours that my brother lived, my father had finally found happiness,” she replied. Daemon told Rhaenyra that her father would need her more than ever. “I will never be a boy,” she said.

Rhaenyra called Syrax, her dragon. She looked at her father, who was just looking straight ahead. “Dracarys,” she said, ordering Syrax to burn her mother and brother alive.

Immediately after the funeral, Otto called a meeting about Viserys’ succession. Corlys believes the matter is simple: Daemon is the heir. There are reports of Daemon being an uncontested heir causing “unrest in the Kingdom.” Otto is adamantly against Daemon becoming Viserys’ successor.

“Daemon should stay away from this court,” said Otto. It is said that Daemon can even kill Viserys and take his crown. “Daemon has ambition, yes. But not for the crown,” Viserys told his small council as Daemon listened to all that everyone was saying.

One of the council members said that Viserys could simply name his heir. Otto mentioned Rhaenyra’s name. The idea was met with criticism because she was a woman. Otto believes that Rhaenyra is a better choice than Daemon. Viserys didn’t want to choose between his brother and his daughter. Corlys adds that there are other options. His wife, Rhaenys, is an option. She also has a male heir.

Viserys blinked and walked out of the meeting. Alicent went to see her father. He wants her to come to give Viserys solace after his loss. She knows what he’s plotting, what this means for her. However, Alicent does what she says.

Viserys & Daemon Relationship Breakup

Meanwhile, Daemon is at a brothel. Mysaria calls him “the king’s sole heir once more.” Later, Otto told Viserys that Daemon had bought a delightful house and baked a cake for Prince Baelon. Daemon calls him “heir for a day.” This will send Viserys across the border. Viserys called upon Daemon to stand in front of him while he was on the Iron Throne. He wanted to know if Daemon really uttered those words. Daemon said: “We all have to mourn in our own way.

Viserys was very angry. He is the only one who protects his brother. “You were just trying to drive me away,” Daemon snapped. Daemon is angry that Viserys never asked him to be his Hand. He believes Otto has ulterior motives. “He doesn’t protect you. I will,” Daemon told his brother. From whom, Viserys wondered. “You yourself,” Daemon said. He was brutally honest with his brother. Daemon believes that Viserys is weak and the small council knows it.

“I have decided to name a new heir,” Viserys revealed. Daemon said, “I am your heir.” No more. He’s chasing Daemon away. After Daemon called him weak, Viserys cut his hand on the Iron Throne again.

Great Ruler Queen

Rhaenyra was ordered to meet her father in the Red Keep’s vault. He asked her what she saw when she saw dragons. “I suppose I see us,” Rhaenyra replied. Rhaenyra said that people believed that the Targaryens were close to the gods because they had dragons. “Without them, we are just like everyone else,” she said.

Viserys doesn’t think men should mess with dragons. If not careful, they can be ruined just like Valyria. He apologized for wasting all these years waiting for a son. “You are your mother’s best, and I believe as I know she did that you can be a great ruler queen,” Viserys told her daughter. When she told Daemon, Viserys emphasized that Daemon “wasn’t made to wear crowns…but I believe you were.”

The people pledge their allegiance to Viserys and his chosen heir. Viserys warned his daughter that “the Iron Throne is the most dangerous chair in the Kingdom.” He also let her into a little secret. He told her The Song of Ice and Fire, a secret that has been passed down from king to heir since the time of King Aegon. When Viserys officially named Rhaenyra his heir, Daemon left King’s Landing on dragon’s back.
