Reynolds refutes Eckersley’s comments about Pirates
Pittsburgh Pirates quarterback Bryan Reynolds didn’t want to hear about Dennis Eckersley’s thoughts on the Hall of Famer team.
Eckersley, 67, tore up the Pirates’ “unnamed” and “pathetic” payrolls Tuesday night while serving as a black commentator for NESN during the Pittsburgh vs Boston Red Sox game.
A day later, Reynolds categorically denied the comments from Eckersley.
Pirates payroll is 28th in the MLB, behind only the Oakland Athletics and the Baltimore Orioles. Pittsburgh is currently bottom in NL Central after losing six games in a row and 20.5 games over first place.
Reynolds, 27, is one of the few veterans on the team and an All-Star in 2021. This season, his 0.259 hit average and 0.805 OPS lead the team.
