The sole diesel engine comes in the form of the 420d 2.0-liter, producing 187 hp. All vehicles use an eight-speed automatic transmission and rear-wheel drive, with the exception of the top-spec M440i and the 420d xDrive variant.

The previous Sport trim level is no longer offered, with BMW now only offering the popular M Sport spec for the 4 Series. There’s an option to upgrade to the M Sport Pro Edition, which adds larger alloy wheels and more driver-focused features like adaptive M suspension and an M Sport differential.

With a starting price of just over £40,000, the 4 Series Coupe is on par with rivals from Audi and Mercedesalthough we’d say the BMW is the best car overall.
