On this week’s episode of scam products that TikTok definitely prompted me to buy, I’m talking all about jelly skates – more specifically, Target’s new product Mad Love Marni Jelly Slide Heels ($30), not only took social media by storm, but found a permanent place in my closet.
You’ve probably seen a lot of undeniably chic jelly skates on your TikTok feed over the past few months, often from some of today’s top designer brands. Amidst the rise of 90’s fashion trends and a host of celebrities have embraced jelly shoes since the end of the year, the Polly Pocket-esque style has pretty much evolved – and is predicted to be good trend in autumntoo, courtesy of recent Barbiecore Obsessions.
Although I was tempted to invest in a pair of jelly sandals of my own, I was less interested in the noticeably high prices of many popular styles. Then TikTok (aka Generation Z’s crystal ball for fashion trends) introduced me to the perfect jelly slide dupe from my go-to retailer, Target. The $30 style is almost a perfect copy for other things famous jelly heel skates. And when I discovered that they were also available to shop in three chic colors (bonus!), I immediately panicked and drove to Target before they could sell out knowing I had to try the shoes on. for yourself.
Keep reading for my honest thoughts on these stylish, stylish heels from Target.
What I love about these jelly skates
The short answer is that I just love a good dupe. And after months of searching for an affordable jelly skate that can match TikTok’s design style, I’m happy to report that this one works.
However, the long answer is that there are really very few things I do not Love these jelly sandals. The chic style features a square toe design, which gives the shoe a more striking construction. Since sandals are made from a material more like plastic, rubber than any kind of fabric component, they are also very easy to keep clean, leading me to hope they will remain a staple in my wardrobe for many years to come. many years to come.
And perhaps the best: that price. For just $30, I can wear one of the trendiest shoes of the season and hoard it with many colors (because of course black style patent ($30) was on my radar).
How do these Jelly skates feel?
When people hear the word “jelly” in the product’s name, they probably picture a feeling of super luxury or a bit of a snob. I’ll be the first to admit, that’s not the case with Target’s new jelly skates – or really any other jelly shoes, for that matter. This particular look is made of a plastic-like, rubber-like component that is very dense and actually creates more of a rigid case structure. It certainly doesn’t have the same feedback quality as actual jelly, but it’s still very comfortable.
With how unique the outsole is, I even doubted if I could make this shoe work all day. But so far, I’ve been pleasantly surprised. From running a weekend errand to enjoying a late dinner with a girlfriend and even venturing out on a few day trips, these jelly slides have proven they can provide support and comfort. abundant, even during my longest days outside the house.
Several other reviewers have recommended buying shoes at least half a size down, as the style is wider. I personally bought the shoes in my normal size and they fit perfectly, but if you have narrower feet, this is definitely something to consider when buying jelly sandals.
Who are these jelly skates best for?
These sandals are the perfect pick for anyone looking to embrace one of the biggest shoe trends of the season without shelling out a ton of money on the product. I love experimenting with new fashions as much as the next, but I also don’t want to mess around with a style that I don’t quite believe will still be relevant next season. The great thing about these jelly slides is that you can enjoy the fun of a resurrected shoe style while it’s still new and avoid any later purchase guilt thanks to its $30 price tag.
Plus, the shoe offers a lot of versatility in style. I wore them religiously with just a classic white t-shirt and denim to work for a more laid-back look during the day. The slides also pair great with a lot of other transitional styles in my wardrobe, like midi skirtskirts and even some Jumpsuit.
