Review Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X: Portable Powerhouse

Lenovo’s Yoga 2-in-1 convertible laptop line is popular, but its Yoga S or Slim line is just as interesting. These laptops are designed to be thin and powerful, offering a combination of multimedia capabilities and raw performance for those who don’t need a convertible design. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X sits at the top of the stack, and while the name sounds pretty catchy, it’s designed for content creators and professionals who need hardware calibrated for their workflow. Let’s go into all the details so you can decide if this is your next laptop.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X price in India

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X starts at Rs. 1,12,200 according to Lenovo India website. The base variant comes with a 12th Gen Intel Core i5 CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 512GB SSD, and a 3K non-touch display. However, the configuration can be customized to fit your needs. Lenovo sent me a higher-spec variant that has an Intel Core i7 CPU, 16GB of RAM, a 1TB SSD, and an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU, priced at Rs. 1,54,100. The price can be higher if you choose additional software, double the RAM and touch screen.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X looks great in this Dark Teal color

Design Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X looks like any other premium clamshell laptop. The trunk can open up to 180 degrees, not beyond like other convertible Yogas. I think my review device’s Dark Teal finish looks good because it’s not a common color. The smooth matte texture is also easy on fingers and doesn’t attract fingerprints easily. All edges and sides are carefully rounded to make this device comfortable to hold and use. The laptop is moderate in weight, slightly heavier than the announced 1.4kg.

You have a wide selection of ports on the Yoga Slim 7i Pro X. The left side has two Thunderbolt 4 (Type-C) ports for charging and video output, along with a full-size HDMI 2.0 port. The right edge of the laptop has a USB 3.2 (Gen 1) Type-A port, a headphone and microphone combo socket, a power button, and a toggle switch to disable the webcam and Windows Hello IR camera at the hardware level, so No malicious apps can use them in background if you need privacy.

The 14.5-inch screen on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is quite immersive thanks to the thin bezels around and good brightness. The IPS display has a 3K resolution (3072 x 1920 pixels) and a 120Hz refresh rate. It is factory calibrated with a claimed color accuracy of Delta E<1. The monitor also supports Dolby Vision and Nvidia's G-Sync playback.

The keyboard is evenly backlit with evenly spaced keys, good travel and relatively quiet operation. There are perforated speaker grilles on either side of the keyboard and a large trackpad underneath. The vents are hidden near the hinge of the display. The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X comes with a 100W USB Type-C power adapter.

Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X Specifications

Lenovo’s current configurations of the Yoga Slim 7i Pro X in India are based on 12th Gen Intel Core CPUs, but 13th Gen options are coming soon, just like Yoga 9i 2 in 1 to be recently refreshed. The variant I have has an Intel Core i7-12700H CPU with a total of 14 cores (six performance, eight performance). 16GB LPDDR5 RAM is soldered to the motherboard so it is not expandable.

My device is also equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050 GPU with 4GB of GDDR6 RAM. The stereo speakers are tuned by Harman and support Dolby Atmos. Other features include Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.1, and a 4-cell 70WHr battery that is said to deliver up to 10 hours of battery life. There’s no fingerprint sensor, but you do get an infrared camera for Windows Hello facial recognition.

The backlit keyboard on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is very comfortable to type on

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X comes with Windows 11 Home, although you can upgrade to the 11 Pro when you configure it. You pre-install typical Lenovo apps, such as Lenovo Vantage to update drivers and firmware, Lenovo Smart Interface (webcam enhancements), Lenovo Voice, etc. Yoga Slim 7i Pro X Also Nvidia Studio Verified that means it’s optimized to work better with creator apps like Adobe Premiere Pro.

Performance and battery life of Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X

With my review unit’s top specs, the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is an absolute joy to use for both work and play. The exhaust fan remains silent under normal use cases, but a faint hum can be heard when gaming or running other heavy workloads. Some spots on the bottom of the laptop, near the vents, remain a bit warm even with light use. When gaming, the base and some keys tend to get a bit hot, possibly due to the dedicated GPU.

If you’ll be typing a lot, then you’ll be happy to know that the keyboard is comfortable. The touchpad also works well. This 3K non-touch display on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X delivers sharp images with vibrant colors. I found the brightness to be more than adequate, and the display’s backlight intensity was automatically adjusted based on the ambient light. By default, the Nvidia GPU runs in Optimus mode, which means it is only activated when the application needs it. To use G-Sync in games, you need to switch to GPU-only mode, but this will affect battery life.

Modern games like Death Stranding run well on Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X with Nvidia RTX 3050 GPU

The benchmark performance of the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is impressive. In the single-core and multi-core tests of Cinebench R20, this laptop scored 682 and 5,025 points, respectively. 3DMark Time Spy’s graphics test suite returns 3,966 points. SSD performance is equally good. The 1TB SSD in my device gave a little over 6GBps read in sequential and random tests, and a little over 4.5GBps write in sequential and random tests. Real world tests also run fine. It took 1 minute and 12 seconds to compress a 3.7GB folder of file types, while encoding a 1.3GB AVI file to MKV with Handbrake took just 42 seconds.

Since my review unit has a good GPU, I fired up some popular games to see how well the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X performs. fortress runs smoothly at a steady over 30fps at the ‘High’ graphics preset in full-HD. dead aground also very easy to play at 1440p, using Nvidia’s DLSS-enabled ‘High’ graphics preset. This laptop can certainly handle AAA titles at moderate settings and resolutions, but it gets pretty hot in the process.

Netflix in Microsoft Edge detected a Dolby Vision-compatible display and automatically increased the brightness. HDR videos look good on an IPS panel, though blacks aren’t as deep as what you get from an OLED panel. The stereo speakers are quite loud and sound clear. The 1080p webcam isn’t bad, and even in low light, Lenovo’s software does a good job of reducing noise in the dark while maintaining a good exposure on your face. The laptop also supports presence detection and can automatically lock after a certain amount of time when you leave it or wake up when you return to use it.

Lenovo’s bundled software with Yoga Slim 7i Pro X offers useful features

Battery life on the Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X isn’t too bad. On the Battery Eater Pro drain test, the laptop lasted less than two hours (1 hour, 54 minutes), which is pretty decent considering my device’s configuration and the high-resolution display. The refresh rate is always set to Dynamic (60Hz or 120Hz, based on the application) in Windows. I can usually get an average of 5 to 6 hours with light to medium usage (using Slack and Chrome, not playing games), again, I feel the configuration I’ve tested is is fine.

Perhaps a lower-spec version of this laptop could get closer to the rated battery life of 10 hours. The battery charges pretty quickly with the included adapter, going from zero to about 60 percent in half an hour.

judgment

The Lenovo Yoga Slim 7i Pro X is a well-built premium laptop that delivers good performance and features for the price. The high-resolution display, solid build, fast performance, and fairly low weight make it a good tool for content creators and professionals who want to work on the go. While it’s not a gaming laptop, it can work in modern 3D games if you configure it with a GeForce RTX 3050 GPU.

The only real criticism I can think of is that this particular configuration tends to run a little warm most of the time, even when you’re not doing anything intensive. It would be nice to have an SD card slot, but that’s not exactly a deal breaker. It won’t hurt if you wait a bit until Lenovo refreshes this model with a 13th Gen Intel CPU, but even if you buy it now, this should be good enough.
