Revealed: The 110-year-old man’s secret to longevity!


We all wish to live long, we all wish others to live long. But little do we know what it takes to really live a long life. The oldest man living in the UK shares his secret to longevity. John Alfred Tinniswood, 110, shared gems of wisdom in which he told what helped him live so long.

Received a 10th birthday card from the Queen on his 110th birthday


Tinniswood has received a 10th birthday card from the Queen. Since turning 100 years old in 2012, he has received an annual birthday greeting card from the Queen.

Traditionally, the Queen sends her wishes and messages to those celebrating their 100th and 105th birthdays and every year thereafter. Congratulatory messages were also sent to those celebrating their 60th, 65th and 70th wedding anniversaries. “Every year, thousands of birthday and wedding anniversary cards are sent on behalf of the Queen to those celebrating important birthdays and wedding anniversaries,” the Royal website reads.

“I keep up with my friends”


Born in 1912, centenarians do not feel old. He said, “I keep up with my friends”.

He lived through two World Wars, the Spanish flu and the COVID pandemic.

This positive side of him can be attributed to the healthy and long life he has right now.

Walking is important


In an interview, he revealed that walking is his favorite activity. He still manages to walk, although his mobility has been challenged to some extent.

“Walking your legs is a good exercise. Every day, rotate your foot left and right,” he says.

Walking is considered one of the most effective and low-impact exercises. It works on many muscles at the same time.

Do everything in moderation


He revealed that of the things that have helped him get this far, the most effective is doing everything in moderation. He said: Eating in moderation, drinking alcohol in moderation can help the body stay healthy. He also emphasizes moderation in all physical and non-physical activities including exercise, writing and even listening.

A true gentleman


Tinniswood’s care home manager Katie Howard is all about Tinniswood. Calling him a wonderful individual with many stories, she told the BBC he was a real gentleman.

Tinniswood was born in Liverpool.

“He likes reading newspapers and listening to music,” Katie added.

From motivation


He suggested not to stay with one thing. “…otherwise you’ll be on a narrow road,” he said.

“A lot of people today are like sheep, a lot of people go through life without thinking for themselves,” he told the BBC.

Tinniswood is an example of how good mental health is the key to a long and prosperous life.
