Respawn doesn’t want to make Apex Legends 2–“It’s our Anti-Vision”

top legend is now over four years old and is entering Section 16it’s a miracle The live service game bubble looks like it’s ready to explode. Moving into Season 16, Respawn is shifting its priorities for the game to ensure the Apex Legends team isn’t just adding new content for its sake. The team wanted to avoid adding so much stuff that they designed the battle royale mode into an inescapable corner and their only option was to finish the game and then create Apex Legends 2.

“I think the basic thing to philosophy is [design director] Evan [Nikolich’s] talking about our goal that we don’t want to put out content just for the sake of giving content,” game director Steve Ferreira told GameSpot in an interview. Interview discussing Apex Legends’ four-year history.

“Thứ nhất, chúng tôi muốn tác động đến trò chơi, nhưng thứ hai, chúng tôi muốn đảm bảo rằng chúng tôi không quên trò chơi một cách toàn diện. [We don’t want to] slowly get the game into a state where the only option for us to do the next thing we want to do is to completely refactor and shut down the game that’s streaming and launch Apex Legends 2. That’s the way to fight our vision.”

Apparently, Apex Legends probably won’t continue forever. At some point, servers for multiplayer games that are always online may be down and at that point the game will no longer be playable. But the team is planning to let Apex Legends continue for as long as possible and avoid releasing the game directly serving the sequel in the same way as destiny 2 or precaution 2.

“While we don’t have a specific date in mind—and, in your opinion, I don’t think anything lasts forever—in our minds, Apex will certainly continue as long as any any of us will work on it, and then the next, and the next,” Ferreira said. , I think we at least have to explicitly trust our approach, which ensures that we’ll make changes to the game when they’re ready, and when we need those things will downgrade. wing instead of just achieving a content formula that players expect.”

Nikolich points to Apex Legends’ competitive core as a potential indicator of the game’s longevity. Nikolich told GameSpot: “The key to Apex reaching its potential for forever success is the competitive nature of its gameplay. “It’s a competition. And games that have stood the test of time – and I’m talking about all games – are competitive games. For example, chess is one of them. Chess Chess is a game that will never go away. And so while we are far from becoming chess, as long as we do our best to keep working towards it. [competitive side of players]focusing on the core of the game and building systems around it to keep it going and keep it engaging, Apex could last forever.”

Apex Legends Season 16 is an ideal on-ramp for new playersstarting February 14. This season is the first to not add new playable characters to Apex Legends and instead make major changes to the seven legends and rework class perks.
