Report: Yankees spoke to Brewers about Joey Gallo

Milwaukee currently has a 57-44 lead and four games against St. Louis Cardinals at National League Central. Even so, the team hasn’t gained much from the field so far in the season.

Central midfielder Lorenzo Cain is hitting 0.179 with 0.465 OPS. Seeing how much time is left, former NL MVP Christian Yelich continues to struggle (8 HR, 35 RBI). Gallo can come on as a substitute with the ability to start from the start. Despite his problems this season, the 28-year-old still has a successful track record.

  • Joey Gallo’s stats (2021): 38 HR, 77 RBI, 0.351 percentage basis, 0.808 OPS

Gallo’s 0.199 average last season was misguided as he led the U.S. Championship with 111 walks, increasing his base percentage significantly. However, he also has a reputation for attacking as much as any player in the game (AL-high 213x in 2021).

For a potential trade, Milwaukee would buy low. Gallo is a free agent after the 2022 season and is earning $10.28 million. The Brewers would likely have to give up nothing more than a low-level prospect to snoop on him from New York.

A Texas Rangers first pick back in 2012, Gallo jumped on the scene in 2017 and 2018. That two-year span saw him hit a total of 81 hosts. Maybe, Milwaukee thinks it can catch lightning in a bottle here.
