Looks like that’s not the case.
Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer (h/t Pro Football Talk) reported Wednesday afternoon that a source said it’s “not true that the NFL would probably serve a six- to eight-game suspension for Deshaun Watson if that’s what disciplinary officer Sue L. Robinson offered.”
The source added that the NFL “didn’t budge” in demanding that Watson be suspended for the 2022 season, at a minimum, in light of public allegations of sexual misconduct during massage sessions.
For a piece published on Tuesday night, Mike Florio of PFT suggested the union would likely “start an appeals process” to commissioner Roger Goodell if Robinson’s ruling only included a ban from six to eight competitions.
Watson has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing and has two grand juries refused to prosecute him, but a litigation filed a lawsuit against the Texans on Monday alleging that they triggered the reported behavior of their former signal caller saying “at least 30 different women” may have experienced the behavior misconduct during sessions involving the 26-year-old man.
24 plaintiffs suing Watson resolved earlier this month. It is not clear if additional lawsuits may be filed this summer or later this year.
