Report: 49ers QB Trey Lance to undergo season-ending surgery on right ankle
San Francisco 49ers quarterback Trey Lance picked up a significant injury in Sunday’s game against the Seattle Seahawks, and it’s an injury that will likely end his season.
Lance is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his right ankle, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports.
Lance was taken to the dressing room at the end of the first quarter on Sunday. His legs awkwardly crouched below him when two Seahawks defenders tackled him as he sent the ball up the center in a pre-designed run. The medical staff used a cast to stabilize Lance’s leg on the field. The former No 3 picker was immediately disqualified for the rest of the match due to an ankle injury.
Jimmy Garoppolo took over the 49ers after Lance left the game. The veteran led the team to an easy 27-7 victory over a similarly ranked opponent. San Francisco has agreed to a restructured contract with Garoppolo before the start of the season that includes a number of incentives. He will probably get a chance to hit them now.
Lance’s match against Seattle was only the third of his career.
