Report: 49 people expected to keep QB Jimmy Garoppolo until cut day

When San Francisco 49ers out for Week 1 on September 11, it’s likely the Jimmy Garoppolo quarterback will not be with them.

However, according to NFL Network’s Ian RapoportThe 49ers plan to keep Garoppolo for now.

“It looks like they’re going to keep him for as long as possible just to see if there’s a commercial market to develop before eventually, and potentially continue to operate from him,” Rapoport said.

While Rapoport said there is “no clear commercial partner” for Garoppolo, things could change between now and the start of the regular season.

The 49ers have until 1pm on August 30 to cut Garoppolo. Otherwise, they will be responsible for Salary 24.2 million dollars in 2022, comes with a $26.9 million cap.

The 49ers’ NFC West rivals, the Seattle Seahawks, have link to Garoppolo. Veteran Geno Smith and former Denver Broncos caller Drew Lock, is now fighting for the job starting in Seattle.

Garroppolo, who had shoulder surgery in March, started unlimited throwing last week. Currently, he does not practice with the team, only participates in throwing exercises.
