The survivor has asked the state government to ensure the safety of her and her family members to post the release of the convicts. “I appeal to the Government of Gujarat, remove this harm. Give me back my right to live without fear and peace. Please make sure that my family and I are kept safe,” she added.

On March 3, 2002, Bilkis Bano’s family was attacked by a mob in Randhikpur village in Limkheda taluka of Dahod district. Bilkis Bano, who was 5 months pregnant at the time, was gang raped and 7 members of her family were killed by rioters.
