Release of A, Elvis Andrus a few days after complaining about playtime

If you only know one thing about Oakland A, the team probably doesn’t keep veteran players or fan favorites around for long.

Shortstop Elvis Andrus became the latest MLB player to fit that mold when he was released from the American League club on Wednesday.

Andrus’ release is part of an overhaul that began taking shape in Oakland last week, but what makes it even more interesting are his recent comments aimed at the team for not playing him more. The 33-year-old has been a regular for the A team for a few seasons but has recently stepped down in the role – and expressed his disappointment about that last week.

“Of course I’m sad… But like I said, the best I can do is be optimistic and wait for my turn and be ready for whatever happens,” he told San Francisco Chronicles.

It may not count for much at the moment, but Andrus at least ended his tenure in Oakland by hitting a home game against his former team, the Texas Rangers, on Tuesday night.

This season, Andrus is scoring .237 / .301 / .373 with eight home runs, 30 RBIs, and 41 scoring over 84 hits.
