Red Sox puts Rafael Devers on IL

The Red Sox has placed a third star Rafael Devers was on the 10-day injury list with right hamstring inflammation, according to team. In terms of respective moves, midfielder Jaylin Davis has been promoted from Triple-A and Enrique Hernandez was placed on the 60-day wounded list.

Devers, still only 25 years old, have put together another All-Star campaign. So far, he has hit the .324 / .379 / .602 mark with 22 home runs in 380 appearances. With numbers like that, the Red Sox won’t want to go long without their superstar in the hot corner. At the age of 48-46, Boston also doesn’t have many messy rooms, not in the crowded AL East.

Enrique Hernandez has missed 39 games and he was recently withdrawn from a rehab mission. Putting him on the 60-day injured list at this stage doesn’t make much sense, but it does open up a 40-man slot for Davis’ promotion.

Davis, 28, is 2 against 4 with an offensive pair of the year for Boston. This is his fourth season in the major leagues, the first three coming to the Giants. All in all, he only made 72 appearances in the professional leagues. The Red Sox announced he was exempt from the Giants at the end of April. In the Triple-A between the two clubs this season, David is scoring .247 / .336 / .404 in 268 appearances.

In terms of filling Devs, the Red Sox can do little to fill that void. Jeter Downs may be given the opportunity for a number of important activities here in the majors. Downs is, of course, most notable for being a key part of the Mookie Betts deal. That makes him a complicated player for the Red Sox organization, but this could be a small opportunity for him to play through some of the early ups and downs.
