Rebel’s Romance Denies Sammarco in Preis von Europa
Rebel’s Romance justifiable bias to win better than IDEE 153 Deutsches Derby (G1) Sammarco September 25th Preis von Europa (G1) 60th landing 3/4 the length under William Buick’s patient voyage at Cologne.
Son of Godolphin Dubai added a second German group of 1 to his resume following his success at Westminster 132nd Grosser Preis von Berlin last month, both won by leading contender Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe (G1) Alpinista in 2021.
Alaskasonne and Andrasch Starke make sure not to repeat the slow pace seen at Grosser Preis von Baden three weeks ago, a setup that seems far more suitable for Sammarco at the hands of German champion Bauyrzhan Murzabayev.
Rebel’s Romance finished sixth out of seven runners home in the 1/2 mile race, but Buick sent gelding through a hole in the tracks and his partner stylishly chose to count for Sammarco , while Great grace continued to be third.
Buick said: “He’s very nice and relaxed. Last time he showed at Hoppegarten that he has a foot swing, and it’s very long here. He’s a better horse on fast ground. more, but he did well.”
Having only raced in all weather or dirt conditions in its first seven starts, Rebel’s Romance has thrived since being moved to grass this past summer. The 4-year-old has captured his last 4 starts, including the L’Ormarins Queen’s Plate Glorious Stakes (G3) in England for coach Charlie Appleby.
