Real Madrid signs Aurelien Tchouameni
French midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni has signed with Real Madrid on a six-year contract, the club announced Saturday morning.
The transfer was agreed earlier this week, according to ESPN, but it was initially reported by the network as a five-year, $86 million contract. In May, Tchouameni reported rejected interest rates from Liverpool and Paris Saint-Germain to move to Real Madrid.
Tchouaméni, 22, has spent his last two years with AS Monaco and also plays for the French national team. With Real Madrid, Tchouaméni will probably be a long-term replacement for Casemiro, 30, who has been with the club since 2013.
In May, French soccer star Kylian Mbappé was supposed to join Real Madrid, but reversed course and re-sign with PSG. The addition of Tchouaméni is a boon for a Real Madrid defence, which is sometimes shaky, despite the team’s bid to win La Liga and the Champions League.
Real Madrid have only scored 31 goals in the 2021-22 La Liga season, but most of them have been scored by goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois, as the team’s expected number of goals conceded is 47.1. Real Madrid beat Chelsea in the Champions League quarter-finals, 5-4, and Manchester City in the semi-finals, 6-5. While the team beat Liverpool in the final, 1-0Real Madrid let 9 shots hit the goal.
