Rajiv Gandhi assassination case convicts released from jail | Chennai News


CHENNAI: Tamil Nadu Prison Department released six people on Saturday convict in the old prime minister Rajiv Gandhi assassination from jail.
The department received an e-mail confirming the Supreme Court’s ruling that released the convicts.
Robert Payas and brother-in-law Jayakumar were released from Puzhal Central Prison at about 5:15 p.m. Murugan and Santhan were released from Vellore Central Prison around 5pm.
Nalini Sriharan, who is on parole, appeared in front of the Katpadi police station near Vellore on Saturday and signed the ledger. Ravichandran, who was on leave, was released from Madurai Central Prison. Nalini and Ravichandran will have to appear before their respective prisons from where they were pardoned and left.
Robert Payas, Jayakumar and Santhan will be held in a special camp for foreign nationals at Kottapattu in Trichy while the others can stay wherever they want.
AG Perarivalan, another convict in the case, was released in May.
