Gettysburg College recently made headlines after reports of an alleged racial attack on a student-athlete. It is alleged that the letter “n” was carved into a student’s chest with a sharp object.
However, Black student leaders are now alleging that is not the whole story.

This is what allegedly happened to student-athletes at Gettysburg College
According to Carter, there are less than 5% of black students at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. So when it was reported that there had been a racist attack on campus on September 6, the incident attracted national attention. Additionally, students later expressed their disappointment to the school’s president and administrators.
The victim said he was overcome during a meeting with the school’s swim team. He was said to be the only “person of color” present. The next day, the victim allegedly exposed his tracks and the team captain reported.
Ultimately, both the unknown attacker and the victim were suspended pending the results of the investigation.
Did the investigation hold the right person responsible for the alleged incident involving the “N-Word”?
Despite the alleged events, two Black student leaders at Gettysburg College maintain that the incident was not what it seemed.
“I get it [from] our meeting that he [the victim] asked another student… to do this to him,” said a black student leader Justin W. explained Carter.
Another leader, Obaapa Danquah-Smithsupporting Justin’s claim that the alleged victim was “showing off” his mark.
According to Carter, questions remain about why Gettysburg College and the student’s family reported the incident to police.
