Ford revealed Mustang 2024 redesigned on Wednesday at 2022 Detroit Auto Show, but the new design isn’t the only surprise. Included in the range this time around is a new race-focused Mustang Dark Horse model, which boasts a version of the familiar Coyote 5.0-liter V-8 with a target output of 500 hp.

The race-focused Dark Horse is the model most buyers will be interested in. However, it doesn’t go all the way into the performance dial like previous Shelby Mustangs.

Additional power comes from a unique configuration for the 5.0-liter V-8, based on connecting rods from the previous Shelby GT500, as well as a new dual-throttle intake design that is said to improve flow. air into the engine. The standard wheels are a staggered set of 19-inch alloys wrapped in Pirelli P Zero tires, but lighter carbon fiber wheels will be offered after launch.

Also available is a Handling Pack that adds stiffer springs, larger front and rear swing bars, a revised rear spoiler with integrated Gurney flaps and wider 19×10.5-inch wheels at the front and rear. 19×11 at the rear or an inch wider front and rear than the standard wheels.
You’ll easily recognize the Dark Horse thanks to its unique styling treatments such as dark surrounds for the LED headlights, darkened exhaust tips, a glossy black grille with trapezoidal nostrils, and a unique front fender. The Dark Horse has a unique badge featuring a forward-facing horse and the model comes with an exclusive glossy metallic paint called Blue Ember. There are also treatments for the interior. The listing includes a thicker suede-wrapped steering wheel and blue stitching. Blue stitching extends to the door and seat panels, gearshift surrounds and center console, and the seats are also blue and have their own perforation pattern. The heavy-duty Dark Horse S and Dark Horse R models will not be street legal and will be stripped of any features that are not needed for use on the track. Instead there will be an FIA-certified roll cage, safety nets, race seats with seat belts (front passenger seat available) and a quick-disconnect steering wheel. There will also be electrical disconnection and fire suppression systems.
Most of the standard controls will also be replaced by dedicated switches and buttons located on the new center console. There will also be new controls for features like speed limiters and performance data loggers.
Performance upgrades over the regular Dark Horse will include upgraded brakes, Multimatic DSSV dampers, an adjustable rear spoiler, high-flow exhaust, roof rails and tow hooks.
