Queen Elizabeth II: The Indian tea-and-chocolate-loving monarch
“The Queen is usually served food from a set menu and if a new dish is introduced, she usually asks for the recipe. At Balmoral Castle we had a lot of strawberries and one day, I saw this really cool recipe called Tilswater Bonder Picker, which translates to The Farmer’s Daughter With a Veil. I made this with strawberries, cream and sugar along with a dash of cinnamon and sent it to the queen. In return, I received an angry message saying, “Who are these veiled farmer’s daughters?”, apparently shared by chef Darren McGrady.
