Queen Elizabeth II dies aged 96
The British royal family announced that the longest-serving monarch in British history, Queen Elizabeth II, passed away on Thursday afternoon. Buckingham Palace confirmed the news in a statement on Twitter.
The Queen passed away peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon. The King and Queen’s consort will stay at Balmoral this evening and will return to London tomorrow.”
The unfortunate news comes just hours after the Palace announced that the Queen was under medical supervision due to concerns for her health. Soon after, reports began to emerge claiming that the Queen’s children and grandchildren, including Prince Charles and his wife, Prince William and Prince Harry, had traveled to be with her.
It was also reported that the BBC changed its website banner from red to black in preparation for her passing.

Queen Charles’ eldest son has spoken in the country, as he will reign as the new King after his mother’s death.
The death of my beloved mother, the Queen, is a time of greatest grief for me and all members of my family. We deeply mourn the passing of a venerable Sovereign and a much-loved Mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt across the country, Kingdom and Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.”
Queen Elizabeth ascended the throne at the age of 25 after the sudden death of her father, King George VI. Since then, she has seen her country go through the recovery phases of the Second World War and oversaw the decolonization of Africa and the Caribbean.
The Queen made her last public appearance just days ago to greet Britain’s new Prime Minister on Tuesday.
