PVL: Tots Carlos, Creamline sweep PLDT for 2-0 start
MANILA, Philippines – Tots Carlos maintained her fine play and hit shots in the third set as Creamline made a quick PLDT, 25-22, 25-16, 25-21, to take the win. Monday in the Premier League Volleyball (PVL) Seminar is invited on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.
Incumbent MVP open conference draw 17 points built on 15 attacks, one block and one trump card consisting of eight digs to settle the High Speed Hitcher’s first loss in two games in one hour and 29 minutes.
Alyssa Valdez, who struggled with eight points in her first win over Petro Gazz last Tuesday, had a more productive run, hitting 13/28 to finish with 13 points on 11 dugouts. Jema Galanza contributed 12 marks, while creator Jia De Guzman scored an excellent 18 sets and added three points.
Creamline won their 10th game in a row since the first congress sweep and secured a 2-0 lead against Cignal, the team they face on Thursday at Sta. Rosa, Laguna.
“PLDT is a tough team to fight. They have improved since the pre-season with a longer preparation from this tournament,” said Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses of the Philippines.
“We made a lot of mistakes in the third set. The good thing is that my players did well to finish the game,” he added.
After dominating the first two sets, the Cool Smashers lost in the third round, leading the Jules Samonte-led PLDT by a score of 17-13. But the errors of the high-speed hitters allowed the first conference roster to close the set, 18 in all.
Carlos shook hands with Valdez and a serve to Galanza to score the match, 24-20. The PLDT saved a point before the prominent University of the Philippines nailed the winning offensive.
Creamline made 22 errors but dominated PLDT’s attack by 53-29.
Samonte was the only bright spot for the PLDT with 10 points and 11 hits as her team dropped 1-1.
