PVL: Tots Carlos ‘always hungry’ to play, deliver for Creamline
MANILA, Philippines — Despite limited play in their previous matches, Tots Carlos proved once again that she’s always ready to deliver to Creamline when her number is called.
Two-time Premier Volleyball League MVP took her league best 25 points to lift Creamline via Choco Mucho, 15-25, 25-20, 25-20, 28-26, during the Augmented Conference 2022 on Thursday in front of 19,000 raving fans at the Mall of Asia Arena.
“I’m always available. They call my name and I’ll be there. Siyempre, sabik pa rin ako maglaro (I long to play) so every point, I try to do my best in every game and help out. for the team,” Carlos said after tallying 18 clearances, 6 saves, 1 ace and also 16 digs and 18 excellent receptions.
“I am very grateful for the opportunity given to me by the coach,” she added.
Carlos made big hits in the fourth inning to stop the stalwartly fighting Flying Giants without Odina Aliyeva being forced to make a decision.
Former University of the Philippines standout player said Creamline gambled on his familiarity as a full-fledged Filipino once again finished the game after Cool Smashers’ entry Yeliz Basa competed in only the first two sets. due to shoulder injury.
“We are actually more comfortable playing together because we have been teammates for many years. And I think the team that is more hungry to win will win,” Carlos said in Filipino.
When asked if Carlos would play more in the semifinals, Creamline coach Sherwin Meneses said it depends on Basa’s recovery and their one-week preparation.
“Look ahead because we still have a week to prepare. We all want Tots to play but that really depends on our spin. We’re looking at what’s best for our team. At the moment, we are still undecided (for the semi-final),” Meneses said in Filipino after finishing the qualifying round with a 7-1 record.
Carlos vowed to be ready for whatever role she takes in the semi-finals, anticipating a tougher one-round round-robin match against their top four teams, including Chery Tiggo.
“Sure, the games are full of pressure. We also have to prepare the other teams because it is very difficult to get to the quarterfinals so they will definitely be even better in this semi-final. Back in the gym so we can get to know our plays and perfect the fundamentals,” she said.
