MANILA, Philippines – Lindsey Vander Weide is keen to return to help Petro Gazz in his quest to find the ‘three peats’ during the Premier Volleyball League’s Enhanced Games.

Moments after completing her defense of the Angels title in the heavily imported tournament, the American expressed her desire to compete again in the 2023 season, citing her best foreign experience so far in the Philippines.

“I would love to come back here. I’m going home for a bit first, I’m really happy to see my family. But I would love to come back here, 100%. By far this is the most fun I have had in a long time playing volleyball,” said Vander Weide after racking up 19 points to finish. Petro Gazz’s Cignal Sweeping Series, 25-17, 22-25, 25-12, 25-22, in Finals 2 on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.

When Vander Weide was asked about returning, Petro Gazz coach Rald Ricafort quipped ‘yes’ as the league is looking to host the Conference Booster as the season opener in 2023.

The 25-year-old had a great experience in her first PVL tournament when she turned out to be the missing piece of the Angels, withHo silver prize in the Open Conference and missed the semi-finals of the Invitationals.

“This is wonderful. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I play in the Philippines. This is my first season, I’ve only heard about it, and it’s amazing,” she said. “Obviously, it’s a great team to be on, and I just think I’m a perfect fit. I’m a perfect match for this team, so it works really well.”

“The Filipino fans are crazy. I have never experienced something like this in my entire life. Is crazy. I think this is how volleyball fans should do it, so I really appreciate them for always showing up and supporting,” she added.

The first player to win the Best Foreign Player award and Finals MVP while crediting their success to her hard-working teammates, led by Djanel Cheng, Myla Pablo, Remy Palma and MJ Phillips.

“I’m excited to be doing it with this team, it’s one of the hardest working teams I’ve ever been on and I think we really showed it in our Finals,” she said. speak. “I’ve never seen us so focused, up to this point, that’s the most important thing. And we pulled it out and won the championship. So I’m excited and I’m excited to do it with this team, again.”

As the second former Oregon Duck to win the title in the Philippines after Alaina Bergsma led Petron to the Philippine Superliga Grand Prix in 2014, Vander Weide hopes to see his classmates showcase their talents at PVL.

“I love Alaina Bergsma. I mean, the Oregon Ducks, to be honest, we have a great coaching staff. And they’ve got great players coming in and out of Oregon,” Vander Weide said. “There’s a lot of us playing pro right now, so I mean, honestly, I’m not surprised it’s happened before.”

“I know I have some really good teammates who are graduating from college right now. This is my favorite place I’ve played abroad so far. So I will definitely recommend it to my teammates,” she added.
