MANILA, Philippines — F2 Logistics survived a tough test against a tough and stubborn PLDT side by avoiding the loss, 25-22, 25-21, 14-25, 20-25, 16-14 , at the 2023 Volleyball Premier League All-Filipino Conference on Tuesday at Philsports Arena.
Myla Pablo scored most of the points on her 21-point debut as Cargo Mover in the first two sets to take a 2-0 lead. But they lost momentum as the High Speed Hitters dominated the third and fourth sets with Jovie Prado, Mika Reyes and Dell Palomata pushing their team to force a decision.
Mean Mendrez also assisted the PLDT in scoring three of her eight points in the fifth set with High Speed Hitters taking the point after Aby Marano’s crucial touchdown, 14-13.
However, Mendez’s body hit the net after a breakthrough effort allowed Cargo Movers to fail, followed by Marano’s massive save on Reyes to seal the match, 15-14.
Kianna Dy completed F2 Logistics’ crunch victory with a strike from the back of the clutch as she finished with 17 points from 16 kills.
F2 Logistics coach Regine Diego was relieved after her team survived a tough debut that lasted two hours and 43 minutes.
“It feels like a championship but yes, it was a good game. In this match, we really at least saw what we needed to work on what we were lacking and where we had the advantage,” Diego said in Filipino after they missed 36 mistakes. .
“It’s really a good way to know the challenges we will face in the future. But I’m glad we won and I see how brave my players are,” she added.
Libero Dawn Macandili provided a solid defense for the Cargo Movers with 35 diggings and 10 excellent receptions. Marano scored 11 points, while Ivy Lacsina added 9 points.
Father Cruz-Behag also returned from a four-year hiatus, playing in the final three sets and picking up three points. She made a huge impact with her on-court leadership for the Cargo Movers until the end of the game.
Prado leads the PLDT with 17 points and 10 hits. Palomata had 16 points based on 11 attacks, 3 blocks, and 2 aces, while Reyes finished with 15 points, including the highest 4 blocks of the game due to a loss.
