Shergar, Galileo and Sea The Stars are voted for by the UK public to join the Hall of Fame | QBCSHOF
The public will decide which of the three G1 Epsom Derby winners will enter the QIPCO British Champions Hall of Fame. Voting is now open to choose from Shergar (GB) (Big nephew), Galileo (Ire) (Sadler’s Wells) and Sea The Stars (Ire) (Cape Cross {Ire}) and will close at midnight on Sunday, May 22.
Successful in the 1981 Derby, Shergar also landed the Irish equivalent and G1 King Geroge VI and Queen Elizabeth Diamond S. but was later kidnapped after a brief stint at the school. Former Coolmore scorer Galileo added his name to the Blue Riband annual in 2001, and he also scored in the G1 Irish and King George Derby. However, he made an even bigger mark as a stallion and holds the world record for total black winners with 349. Galileo’s half-brother, Sea The Stars walk to the Derby victory in 2009 after winning the G1 QIPCO 2000 Guineas. The majestic Gulf also won G1 Coral-Eclipse S., G1 Juddmonte International, G1 Irish Champion S. and his grand finale – G1 Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. He, too, is making an impact as a stallion.
Alan Byrne, Hall of Fame member and editor-in-chief of Car racingsaid, “In different ways, these three champions have written their names in racing history indelibly.
“It was easy to make a compelling case for each of them to enter the Walk of Fame. It will be interesting to see what judgment the wisdom of the racing public will make.”
