PSA: Google Stadia is down today

Note, Stadia owners: Google’s Cloud Games Program will be shutting down today, January 18. Start issuing refunds for all hardware last November, but if you haven’t received it, information on how to receive a piece of hardware must be emailed to the Google account used to make the purchase. However, previous Stadia Pro subscriptions will not be refunded.

There’s a silver lining for those of you who have Stadia controllers and nothing to use them for. You can download an update that will allow your controller to use Bluetooth. Note, however: this will permanently disable wi-fi capabilities, so if you download the update now, you won’t be able to play Stadia games before the shutdown. For more details, you can visit Stadia Help Center.

If you miss news about the closureLast September, Vice President and General Manager of Stadia said in a blog post that “although Stadia’s approach to game streaming for consumers was built on a strong foundation of technology, it didn’t attract the users we expected, so we came up with it.” the difficult decision to begin ending its Stadia streaming service.”

Stadia’s struggles are no secret. That is First-party studios have shut down just over a year later, with the service being “not prioritized” a year later. While it was an interesting experiment, some are bound to fail. Rest in peace, Stadia.
