PS5 prices rise in UK, Canada, Australia, More markets due to high global inflation


PS5 prices have been increased by Sony in certain markets, the company announced today. The Japanese tech giant cited the global economic environment for increasing retail prices. Sony added that it is seeing high global inflation rates and unfavorable currency trends. The retail price of PlayStation 5 in select markets such as Europe, Middle East, Africa, Asia-Pacific (APAC), Latin America (LATAM) and Canada has been increased. Sony also added that the price of Sony’s game consoles will remain unchanged in the US. No word on if PS5 pricing in India is set to move. Gadgets 360 has reached out to Sony for comment.

In a blog parcel, Sony announced that the suggested retail price (RRP) of PlayStation 5 and PlayStation 5 digital version has been increased. Sony says the PS5 price increase is due to high global inflation rates and unfavorable currency trends.

PlayStation 5 new price

PlayStation 5 in Europe is currently priced at EUR 549.99 (about Rs 44,000) for the Blu-ray version and EUR 449.99 (about Rs 36,000) for the Digital version. The price of the gaming console in the UK has been increased to GBP 479.99 (about Rs 45,400) for the Blu-ray version and GBP 389.99 (about Rs 36,900) for the PS5 digital version. Before that, the PS5 Blu-ray version was valuation at 499.99 EUR (about 39,900 Rs) and the digital version costs 399.99 EUR (about 31,200 Rs) in Europe. In the UK, the console is priced at 449.99 GBP (about Rs 42,500) for the Blu-ray version and GBP 359.99 (about Rs 34,000). Prices have increased by about 10% for the Blu-ray version and about 12% for the digital version in Europe. In Japan, the new pricing for PlayStation 5 will take effect from September 15. The new price of PlayStation 5 in Australia has been increased to AUD 799.95 (approximately Rs 44,600) for the Blu-ray Disc version and AUD 649.95 (approx Rs 36,300) for the Digital Version. In Australia, the previous PS5 Blu-ray version costs AUD 749.95 (about Rs 41,800) and the digital version costs AUD 599.95 (about Rs 33,400). Prices have increased by about 7% for the disc version and about 8% for the digital version.

Sony has increased the price in Mexico to 14,999 MXN (about Rs 60,300) for the disc version and 12,499 MXN (about Rs 50,300) for the digital-only version.

In Canada, the price of PS5 has been increased to $649.99 CAD (about Rs 40,200) for the disc version and CAD 519.99 (about Rs 32,200) for the digital version. Before that, the PS5 Blu-ray version was valuation at CAD 629.99 (about Rs 39,000) and the digital version costs CAD 499.99 (about Rs 30,900). Prices have increased by about 3% for the disc version and about 4% for the digital-only version.
