Protests In Chandigarh University After Girls’ Hostel Videos Leaked Online

Punjab school education minister asks the students of Chandigarh University to keep calm.


Massive protests have broken out at Chandigarh University in Punjab’s Mohali after a girl allegedly leaked private videos of her dorm partner online. The police registered the FIR in this matter and the accused girl was arrested.

Police Chief Mohali Vivek Soni said that no deaths or attempted suicides related to the incident have been reported according to medical records.

“It’s a matter of a video taken by a schoolgirl and being circulated… Forensic evidence is being gathered. No suicides have been reported so far. Medical records of students have been recorded. People should not pay attention to any rumors,” Mr. Soni said as ANI news agency reported.

Both the university and the police posted social media posts claiming some of the female students had attempted suicide because of the video leak. Officials with the private university said a girl was hospitalized after she fainted and her condition was stable.

Punjab Women’s Commission Chairman Manisha Gulati said that an investigation is underway.

“This is a serious matter, an investigation is underway. I am here to assure the parents of all students that the defendant will not be released,” she said as ANI reports.

Punjab Education Minister Harjot Singh Bains has asked the university’s students to remain calm.

“No one guilty will be spared. It’s a very sensitive issue and concerns the dignity of our sisters and daughters. We all including the media should be very cautious, it’s also important. is our test now as a society,” he tweeted.
