Protester sets arm on fire on court ahead of Roger Federer’s farewell tennis match at Laver Cup | UK News

A protester appears to have accidentally burned his arm on the court at the O2, London before Roger Federer retired from tennis later this evening.

The incident happened during the opening match between Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman on the first day of this year’s Laver Cup.

Tsitsipas scored the first 6-2 and during the substitution a man ran onto the pitch and lit a fire, which briefly set his arm on fire.

The man was wearing a T-shirt that read “End UK Private Jets” and was quickly dragged from the courthouse after the fire was extinguished.

After a short period of time, the match, the second day of the first day, was able to resume.

Tonight, Swiss star Federer will play for the last time before retiring from tennis.

The 20-time Grand Slam champion joins former rival Rafa Nadal in the European doubles match against Team World at the cup in London.
