Summary of new court filings against Diddy
AP News reported that prosecutors filed new paperwork late Friday (November 15) in Manhattan federal court. It contains editorial content but mainly argues against Diddy’s latest $50 million guarantee proposal. By the way, this proposal will be brought to court next week. Currently, Diddy has been detained at the Brooklyn Metro Detention Center since being arrested in September.
Regarding the obstruction charge, prosecutors said they recorded calls from Combs prison to family members. During these alleged calls, Diddy allegedly asked family members to contact potential victims and witnesses. Additionally, the filing asserts that Combs asked his family to create “narratives” to influence the jury pool and suggest strategies to help his tarnished public image . Note that his trial won’t start until May 5, 2025.
“The defendant demonstrated repeatedly – even while in custody – that he would blatantly and repeatedly disregard the rules in order to improperly influence the outcome of his case. In other words, the defendant has shown that he cannot be trusted to comply with the rules or conditions,” prosecutors’ filing states.
Prosecutors say Sean Combs is taking advantage of his family members in this way
Furthermore, prosecutors are implying that Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs was acting with the intention of blackmailing victims and witnesses into remaining silent or giving testimony favorable to him. They also claim that Combs has violated the rules since arriving at Brooklyn-MDC.
For example, new filings from prosecutors specifically name names birthday celebration Diddy’s kids shared on social media. The disgraced hip-hop mogul turned 55 years old on November 4. That same day, Justin Combs shared footage of him, Quincy, Jessie, D’Lila, Christian and Baby Love wishing Diddy a happy birthday look over the phone. Combs’ daughter Chance was also in the video, but she spoke to her father through speakerphone from another cell phone. “I love you all so much.…I can’t wait to meet you…and I just want to say how proud I am of all of you – especially the girls, I mean all of you. Just for being strong. Thank you all for being strong, and thank you all for being by my side and supporting me. I love you all. I have the best family in the world,” Diddy responded at the time.
Well, prosecutors claim the post was not true but a social media campaign shared with the “purpose of influencing a potential jury.” They allege that Combs encouraged his children to film and post the moment. Additionally, prosecutors allege Combs monitored the post’s analysis from prison.
“…[Sean Combs] explicitly discussed with his family how to ensure that the video had the intended effect on potential jurors in this case,” the new court filing said.
Furthermore, prosecutors say Combs also made phone calls to anonymously publish information favorable to his case. “Defendant’s efforts to obstruct the integrity of this proceeding also included tireless efforts to contact potential witnesses, including victims of his abuse, who could give strong testimony against him,” prosecutors allege.
