James Ferguson is planning another cross-channel trip to France with El Bodegon after his third in the Grand Prix de Paris at ParisLongchamp.
The three-year-old has twice won the Continent in his junior season, winning the Group One Criterium de Saint-Cloud championship in his final start at age two.
He’s also finished money in two raid missions to France this term, placing second behind Vadeni in the Prix du Jockey Club, ahead of his most recent attempt at a mile-and-a-half run for Bastille Day feature.
With conditions still dry at home and El Bodegon’s best form dwindling, Newmarket-based Ferguson has now made it to Group Two Prix Guillaume d’Ornano in Deauville on August 15 as his next destination. followed possibly by the foal.
“He’s really good. It’s great to have a horse of that caliber in the yard,” Ferguson said. “He ran a very big race to finish third in the very competitive group last time around.
“He showed he has no problems and the fact that he runs so well on the ground that we probably don’t think is ideal for him – because it’s quick, it’s good to be firm. , I would say – is encouraging and I look forward to getting him out soon.
“It is a horse that has brought its owners a lot of joy and hopes to continue to do so.
