President Joe Biden announced that a tentative deal has been reached to provide railroad workers with better wages, improved working conditions and “reassurance about the costs of their health care. “
Details are not disclosed.
“I thank the unions and rail companies for negotiating in good faith and reaching an agreement that is expected to keep our vital rail system running and avoid background disruption. our economy,” Biden said in a statement.
Negotiators from rail carriers and unions met at Labor Secretary Marty Walsh’s office on Wednesday as the sides tried to negotiate a deal before Friday’s strike deadline.
Dennis Pierce, president of the Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen, or BLT, said BNSF and Union Pacific rejected the union’s proposal for a sick time policy.
