Chairperson Joe Biden likely has the BA.5 Covid-19 variant but his symptoms “continue to improve,” according to the White House.
“His main symptoms, although less bothersome, now include sore throat, menstrual cramps, profuse cough and body aches,” said White House physician Kevin O’Connor. said in a memo on Saturday.
The President on Friday finished his second day Pfizer Paxlovid, an antiviral drug that can reduce the risk of hospitalization for Covid-19 patients, O’Connor said.
While the president is responding to therapy “as expected,” he may have contracted the Covid-19 variant BA.5, which currently causes 70% to 85% of infections in the US.
Biden, who is fully vaccinated and given two booster shots, tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday and reported “very mild symptoms.”
