Prank’s Debut at Saratoga No Laughing Matter

When a 2-year-old chubby kid who is a half-sister to the 2022 Belmont Stakes winner presented by NYRA Bets (G1) makes its debut at Racecourse Saratoga it creates a buzz.
When the aforementioned filthy dog with all the black two-headed variety in her pedigree dazzles 5 1/2 fur, the connections may have something special on their hands.
StarLadies Racing, LNJ Foxwoods and Gainesway Stable’s Prank definitely lived up to the expectations of her bloodline and a 1-2 price across the board like half-sister with Mo Donegal via Into Mischief recorded a stunning 9 3/4 length win in the Friday 31 July race at Spa.
Coached by Hall of Famer Todd Pletcher, Prank set an initial pace over half a mile in: 45.11 and then exploded in the ramp to post her losing win in 1:03.95 under racer Irad Ortiz Jr. .
“We know her very quickly and it’s always interesting to have that kind of pedigree at the bottom. She did everything for us today just like she did for us in the morning,” said Pletcher, who listed Spinaway Stocks September 3 said (G1) at Spa is the next stop for the daughter of a Pulpit mare called Callmissbrown bred by Ashview Farm and Colts Neck Stables.
Prank, the currently sidelined 3-year-old brother who is also a two-time 1/8 mile 2nd place winner for Donegal Racing and Mike Repole owners, was purchased by Solis/Litt for $500,000 from the lot. Ashview Farm store at Keeneland Last September sale.
“She blew me away with this performance,” said Laurie Wolf, founder and managing partner of StarLadies Racing. “We talked to Todd and he told us she’s a nimble person and she might not grow long but he added that the pedigree says she’s going to get long. That’s true. impressive.”
Jamie Roth of LNJ Foxwoods said it was a bit of a relief to see the chubby boy exceed some lofty expectations.
“You can never imagine what they would do,” she said. “You hope for these efforts.”
Prank is the third and most recent pony from her dam, who has produced three winners.
