Potty training goes wrong: Firefighters free toddler who got her head stuck in a toilet seat | UK News

An evening of potty training went awry after a toddler got his head stuck on the toilet seat.

Kay Stewart, 37, tried to potty train her two-year-old daughter Harper at their home in Wallsend, North Tyneside.

But the toddler decided to try to put the chair around his neck and had difficulty, crying: “Mom, I’m stuck.”

Mrs Stewart’s attempts to get out of the chair were unsuccessful and, in desperation, she asked her 16-year-old daughter Shannon to call firefighters for help.

Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service dispatched a team from the Wallsend Community Fire Station and they arrived within minutes.

They used small tools to remove the potty, and delighted Harper’s siblings with the green light on their fire truck.

Ms Stewart said: “They were very calm and kept the other kids busy while helping Harper.

“Harper gave the firefighter a big hug after he was done.

“They even turned on the lights and gave them a big wave before leaving.

“I am very grateful for their help that evening.

Station manager Trevor Sturrock said he was “delighted” that his crew was able to support the family and wished Harper well with future potty training.

“She has to be very quiet, which can be really scary for such a small person.

“Harper was very brave, which helped the firefighters complete the rescue.

“I’d like to thank the crew for their professionalism during this incident – sometimes when you come back people really panic and it’s about keeping calm and calming the others down.”
